Restoration Before Replacement

Restore What You Already Have.

Worn doesn't always mean it needs to be replaced.

Years of weather exposure, staining, organic growth, shifting and everyday use can leave an otherwise solid hardscape looking worn and neglected.

Depending on the condition of the existing surface, restoration can address stained pavers, loose or uneven areas, deteriorated joints and other signs of wear without automatically starting over with a complete replacement.

Every hardscape is different. ACE evaluates the existing surface and determines which restoration services are appropriate based on its current condition.

A Complete Restoration Approach

What Does Hardscape Restoration Include?

Hardscape restoration can involve several different services depending on the condition of the existing surface. ACE focuses on addressing the areas that need attention and restoring what can be restored.

01

Professional Cleaning

Remove dirt, staining, organic growth and buildup to expose the condition of the existing hardscape and prepare the surface for additional restoration when needed.

02

Paver Repair

Address loose, shifted or damaged areas that may be affecting the appearance and condition of the existing paver surface.

03

Re-Leveling

Correct settled or uneven areas by resetting affected pavers to create a more consistent and properly aligned surface.

04

Joint Re-Sanding

Replace deteriorated or missing joint sand after the surface has been properly prepared, helping restore the joints between pavers.

05

Sealing & Protection

Finish the restoration process with professional sealing when appropriate, helping protect the restored surface and make ongoing maintenance easier.

Not every project requires every step. The restoration process is based on the existing condition of the hardscape and the work needed to bring it back into shape.

Know What To Look For

Signs Your Hardscape May Need Restoration.

Hardscapes naturally change with time, weather and everyday use. These are some of the common conditions that may indicate it's time to have your existing surface evaluated for restoration.

Before You Start Over

Restoration Vs. Replacement

A hardscape that looks worn, stained or uneven does not automatically need to be torn out. The condition beneath the surface matters just as much as what you can see.

When The Existing Hardscape Can Be Saved

Restoration

When the existing hardscape is still a good candidate for restoration, targeted work can address problem areas while keeping much of the original surface in place.

Clean stained and weathered surfaces
Repair loose or problem areas
Re-level settled or uneven pavers
Restore deteriorated paver joints
Protect the restored surface when appropriate
VS
When Restoration May Not Be Enough

Replacement

Some hardscapes may have conditions that go beyond what restoration can reasonably correct. In those cases, more extensive work or replacement may need to be considered.

Extensive deterioration or damage
Widespread structural or base problems
Large areas that cannot reasonably be reset
Materials that are too damaged to reuse
Conditions requiring work beyond restoration

Don't Assume It Has To Be Replaced.

ACE evaluates the condition of your existing hardscape to determine what can reasonably be restored and what areas may require more extensive attention. An evaluation can help you understand your options before deciding to start over.

From Evaluation To Protection

The Restoration Process.

Every hardscape starts in a different condition. ACE evaluates the existing surface first, then builds the restoration process around the work the project actually needs.

01
Start Here

Assess

Evaluate the existing hardscape, identify problem areas and determine what can reasonably be restored.

02
Prepare The Surface

Clean & Prepare

Remove dirt, buildup, staining and organic growth as needed while preparing the surface for the next stages of restoration.

03
Correct Problem Areas

Repair & Re-Level

Address loose, damaged, settled or uneven areas and reset affected pavers where restoration requires it.

04
Restore The Joints

Re-Sand

Replace missing or deteriorated joint sand when needed after the surface has been properly prepared.

05
Finish The Restoration

Seal & Protect

When appropriate for the project, professional sealing can help protect the restored surface and make future maintenance easier.

The Process Is Based On Your Hardscape.

Not every restoration requires all five steps. The exact process depends on the surface, its current condition and the problems that need to be corrected. ACE evaluates the project first and recommends the restoration work that makes sense for that hardscape.
